Siempre me ha interesado el mundo de la educación. De hecho cuando llegó la hora de rellenar ese horrible formulario una vez terminada la selectividad, en el que tienes que decidir en dos segundos tu futuro, ie check the box for the first race that you want to study and then the second on the list if not accedías for your note to favorite, I chose journalism and teaching in that order. When I learned something new so excited that I felt the need to convey that emotion to others, Like when I saw a play or a movie that I liked.
But there has been a time when education became almost an obsession. And then came the day 2 de julio de 2013, day my daughter was born.
I started reading books about teaching methodologies and met the Waldorf method, a system that seeks the development of each child in a free and cooperative environment, without examination and with strong support in art and craftwork. I found schools like Alma, her mother tells us in this beautiful post: http://viploved.com/espai-waldorf-garraf/ I became interested in alternative systems to traditional teaching and came to several conclusions:
- In the current system something goes wrong because the dropout rate in Spain is the highest of all the European Union.
- We forced our children to fit into the established system, a system that neither ourselves convinces us and urge them to compete to be the best.
And it was then that I began to wonder Another education is possible? Why people drop out if learning is something wonderful? Why people leave college with little practical knowledge? What is failing?
And I discovered this wonderful video of Seth Godin on education. If you have a short time, you'll love it
In his speech he makes reflections like this:
“If you want to teach someone how to be a baseball fan, Would you start making baseball history to understand, who was Abner Doubleday, what do rural campaigns, cricket influences and capitalism and black suspenders? Would you say there is a test tomorrow. I want to memorize the 50 best batters in order for his batting average and then classify people based on test results? those who did good, Were the best they memorized the names of batters? It is and baseball fans generate?”
Every day we send children to school and say "not figure it out", "Do not ask do not know answer", "Do not question", "Stick to your resume" and better meets, fits, I know how your fellow, do what you are told because I processing, because everything in my assessment is based on whether or not you properly process.
This could lead us to a long debate but one thing that I see very clearly beyond the chosen educational system, well above systems or methodologies. And I see how my education has passed and our day to day Method: The importance of the professor.
Reading This article ABC I discovered how to get Finland to be in the number one podium of academic excellence at European level, for them the key is to choose the most qualified teachers for primary school classes. How the tests have to be teachers are the toughest nationwide. I believe we should enter that circle as beneficial. In the most important thing is the person teaching. A good teacher never forget you not.
In one of the last projects we have launched in the group, the course Method Inglés, even we got to change the grammar teachers chosen at first because we did not convince the quality of their classes. Until that point comes to obsess about this topic. The message is present in all our spaces and our ideals chairs. The main wall in the area of ??tutors wanted to crown this message, key for us: “Tell me and I forget, Teach me and I remember, Involve me and I learn”
Today we proudly present our team of tutors and we can say that they are true professionals who know how to convey passion his love of language.
Y es que, Who has not had a teacher who has managed to convey genuine passion for what he taught? Mine was undoubtedly Professor José Ramón Barreiro History. I remember his first class as if it were yesterday. In your classroom you had the feeling of being so lucky you could not help but ask you a question: Do I deserve I these classes? With it was impossible not study: would you have felt miserable. And you would have been. I came to hate the story behind a lousy teacher I had in COU and the situation was reversed so I got to take two years of a degree in history. It was an outstanding university professor, but we can find similar cases at any other level. Why Who can forget the person who made you loved reading or story?
We all have a teacher who marked our education. What was yours?

I loved the publication, and how right '
David Brierley said, ” Just remember how it feels” and if you think about it and analyze it is absolutely true, I also casually had a history teacher who still remember… I told you all those stories with a plot that made me totally submerged and would like to know more and more… for my learning history (and everything in general) it is wonderful… and it is very sad when you run into a teacher who hinder your desire and your eagerness to learn…
Surely schools waldorf pedagogy as I seem best gift for our children… I've been visiting these schools and I felt overwhelmed to see that a student about 12 years he was running to embrace his teacher when he saw the hall… I was speechless… excited and saw the enthusiasm and the affection that gave off student by her teacher… and I tell you this because I lived in first person and I was totally recorded…
Thank you for the mention Alma School, I'm glad you liked it.
Good luck,
Esther.
Thank you very much for your comment Esther!!Definitely a good teacher is the best gift a child can receive on their way to maturity. And of course, also an adult! A hug, Pilar
