QR codes, originating from Japan, were developed in 1994 by the company Denso Wave (Toyota subsidiary) for the administration and control of inventories in the area of vehicle manufacturing. Denso Wave has not claimed the patent, so QRs are open source and free license.
How do they work? We simply have to open the mobile QR code reader and point the camera at the QR code. QR code reading software captures it, reads it and turns it into an internet link. After a few seconds the information appears on the screen.
The expansion experienced by the Internet in recent decades, linked to the development of mobile devices, and the proliferation of QR readers for smart phones (smartphones), were decisive for the use of these codes to be extended to various areas.
En España, the first sector to develop this technology was mobile telephony. Movistar developed its own QR code, the BIDI code, to write messages, make calls, surf the web or download games and applications. That is why QR codes are generally confused with BIDI codes, but the main difference between the two is that the BIDI codes are neither free nor free, they are owned by the telephone company.

The use of QR codes increases connection between technology and education and it can be a way of attract student attention.
